In the movie Dead Poets Society there is a scene that has stuck with us since watching it many years ago.  Robin Williams gathers his class of young men in front of pictures of past young students who have walked the same halls.  

Make Your Life Extraordinary

Robin Williams asks the young men to lean in to hear words of wisdom from those who have gone before.  He said …. "Hear that?" ….. Carpe Diem …..Carpe Diem, Seize the Day ….. Make Your Life Extraordinary!

What's the Message?

Carpe Diem holds a profound message.  Life is now and life will only ever be now.  The present moment is all there is, it is in the present moment when we experience everything.  We believe it’s our choice to seize the moment.

Don't Waste a Single Moment

The other message that goes hand-in-hand with Carpe Diem is don’t waste a single moment ….Robin Williams says one day we will all stop breathing …. just like the young men in the picture, they are all "pushing up daisies." 

What Does It Take to Live an Extraordinary Life?

Making our lives extraordinary means giving our all, being the best we can be, facing our fears. It means letting go of what people want us to be and seizing who we're meant to be. 

Waiting .... Waiting .... Waiting ......

Especially in these uncertain times, lots of people are waiting for things to happen before they make the decision to seize the day. 

Words of wisdom come from Dr Seuss in the book Oh the Places You'll Go.  Dr Seuss talks about the Waiting Place:

THE WAITING PLACE

Waiting for a train to go or a bus to come,
or a plane to go or the mail to come,
or the rain to go or the phone to ring,
or the snow to snow or waiting around for a Yes or No
or waiting for their hair to grow.

Everyone is just waiting.

Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night

or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a better break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or another chance.

Everyone is just waiting.

Our question …. Where are you? 

Are you seizing the day and making the most of every moment, or are you stuck in the waiting place?  Waiting for inspiration, for things to return to "normal" or people’s approval,  before seizing the day.

Are you facing your fears, celebrating the moments and striving to be the best you can be?
