Life Situations Leading Us to Becoming Digital Entrepreneurs

Digital entrepreneurship suits many life situations

Life Changing Situations

Thirty years ago today my first daughter arrived in the world ready to take on life with gusto.  It’s amazing how someone so small can turn your life upside down and backwards. As a new parent I was not prepared for the road ahead.  People told me having a child would change my life, I just didn’t imagine how much.

It’s humbling being a parent.  There is nothing glamorous about sleepless nights, changing diapers and flying by the seat of our pants really having no idea if we are “doing it” right.  Isn’t it funny how we go to University to learn important skills that will contribute to our success in our careers, but no one teaches us how to create healthy, happy and contributing human beings.  Post Secondary school education happens after the age of 17 and you can have and be responsible for the well being of a child long before that.

Having children, for me anyway, is one of those turning points in life that shifted the way I see myself and the world. Here are a couple of situations that stand out.

Sleep Deprived while Flying by the Seat of My Pants

I remember driving the van with all four kids, our dog Morgan beside me, probably the calmest of us all. I was behind the wheel transporting very precious cargo and I could barely keep my eyes open.  This was probably after many sleepless nights, the kids were ages 1-7 years at the time.  Often they would be squabbling with one another, there might be crying, laughing or the music would be blasting, one thing for sure, that van was live action on wheels.

That day, amidst all the chaos, I remember thinking I was putting my children at risk by driving in such a sleep deprived state.  I pulled into a quiet neighbourhood and told the kids I needed a 10 minute power nap, a survival skill in those hectic years.  Much to my amazement my kids were quiet and calm.  I locked the doors, put my seat back and had one of those revitalizing power naps, somehow they just knew.

What I learned from this situation - Listen to your body, trust your intuition and surprising things happen.

In Adversity the Right People Appear

Another time that stands out, my girls and I were heading to Toronto for a family adventure.  We were meeting their Dad who had been away in Vancouver on business.  We had had mechanical difficulties with the van earlier in the week, things were fixed (or so we thought). Our drive was just over two hours and things went smoothly until I saw steam billowing out of the hood just as we were approaching Toronto.

I made a decision to keep going, probably because I had little choice being in the heart of rush hour traffic. We arrived in Toronto and I remember blindly pulling in behind the Harbour Front Hotel, getting out of the car with all the kids ages 6 weeks, 3 years, 5 years and 7 years old at the time. I had no idea what to do, and then a kind stranger appeared out of nowhere. I explained my situation and asked if he knew where the closest gas station might be. This stranger changed what he was doing immediately, got back in his car, I followed in mine to the closest station.

Just as I pulled in the van's heat register went beyond the maximum.  I believe we had about a second to spare before disaster struck.

What I learned from that situation - Kindness is everywhere, strangers can be angels and appear out of nowhere when we need them the most.

Situations Leading to Joining SFM?

Close to thirty years later, to give you a little context, life has changed. No longer with the kid's father, Bob and I have been together for 12 years, have a blended family of eight adult children and 4 grandchildren.

This is what I take forward from those two situations.

Trust Your Intuition

We decided to become a part of Six Figure Mentors because we trusted our intuition and surprising things happened. When we first listened to the videos, I remember literally feeling lighter and more energized.  We both had a renewed sense of hope. We had found the vehicle that was right for us. An education program, allowing us to learn the skills we needed to acquire (with hard work and dedication) the time and financial freedom we had craved for years.

Today, perhaps not as sleep deprived, (although power naps continue to be a survival skill), we trusted our intuition, listened to our bodies and with renewed sense of hope, we took the leap and we're glad we did. We have skills and knowledge we only imagined, our perspective changed.

Trust the Right People Will Appear

We have tackled a very steep learning curve to get here.  On occasion, especially in the beginning we would become frustrated, wondering if we had made the right decision. SFM encourages everyone to become very clear on why you are doing this in the first place. How will your life be better for you, your loved ones? What does your ideal day look like when you face your fear and break free from conventional ways of thinking?  The vision of our ideal day kept us moving forward.

We are a part of the SFM community - all strangers at first - all willing to help us on our journey.  When the going got tough the right people appeared, much like the stranger who helped the girls and me many years ago.

Perhaps you too will trust your intuition, listen to what your body is telling you and allow strangers to help along your journey.
