Productivity or Busy Work?

Productivity can sometimes have its challenges. A key for success is knowing the difference between productive work and busy work. We were encouraged to realize the digital world just like traditional business, required us to understand the difference between the two.
Why People Fail?
Spending 20 years selling insurance taught me about the importance of doing the tasks that are the most difficult. The first 2 years were very challenging. I knew that 75% of the people starting in the insurance business would quit within the first 2 years. One of the biggest reasons people did not succeed, they were too busy being busy and not busy enough being productive. Does that make sense?
Commit to Success
The first commitment I made to myself was to trust the process, the leaders and commit to being productive. I was not a natural cold caller or networker. I was however very disciplined. I knew “If I was to leave the insurance business they would have to fire me”.
I had the verse below framed and visible on my desk to remind me to keep moving forward when it was difficult. I did make it through the first 2 years and continued to enjoy a 20 year career in the insurance business. The verse below continues to be my mantra today.
Don’t Quit
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit—
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is odd with its twists and turns,
As everyone sometimes learns.
And many a person turns about
When an individual might have won
had he or she stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow—
You may succeed with yet another blow.

What Do Traditional Business and Affiliate Marketing Have in Common?
There are many similarities to traditional business and the affiliate marketing business. Six Figure Mentors encourages us to take the time to learn the skills and gain the knowledge necessary for success. To be a leader and thrive as an affiliate marketer, just like in the insurance business you must do the tough things. Instead of cold calling and grinding through the numbers to land a sale, affiliate marketing requires you to put yourself out there with blogs and videos.
It Takes Courage to Earn as You Learn
This can take practice and a lot of courage. It was scary getting started and then before we knew it, because we weren’t prepared to quit, it became easier. Busy work in the digital world would be spending all your time learning without ever doing. You tell yourself you just aren’t ready and when you learn a little more…..then you will put yourself out there.
The Magic of the 80/20 Rule
Six Figure Mentors encourages us to “learn” 20% and “do” 80%. The resources for learning are so rich with information and they are always current and accessible. It is easy to get stuck in the rut of believing by learning, learning, learning you are doing the tough things. You aren’t.
Leaders: Learn - Do - Teach
Learn - Do - Teach is the goal. We believe it’s only through doing that you gain the experience that prepares you to teach. The stories we can and will tell!
To become leaders in this digital world, we encourage you to get out of your comfort zone and do the tough things. Remember success can be right around the corner. Please watch the 7 free videos to learn more and check us out on YouTube.
We look forward to joining you on your online journey.

Adrienne & Bob
We are digital entrepreneurs who took a courageous leap to start our online business. We have owned an executive recruitment company for over twenty years. The industry is being rapidly disrupted by technology. As a result of the skills we have learned our recruitment business is 100% virtual. Both of our businesses allow us flexibility to work when and where we want and do the things we enjoy.
