When we started our online business we didn’t know what we didn’t know. That was a good thing. We jumped in anyway! Understanding terms like e-commerce and affiliate marketing and the potential this online industry has for all of us was key for moving forward.
What is eCommerce?
Amazon is the best example of eCommerce. It's the exchange of products and services online, made possible with the internet. Unlike store fronts and traditional ways of doing business, there are no geographic or time barriers with eCommerce.
An Unexpected Story: The First "Electronic" Commerce
In 1886, a telegraph operator managed to obtain a shipment of watches that had been refused by the local jeweller. Using the telegraph, he sold all the watches to fellow operators and railroad employees and then ordered more.
One person saw an opportunity and that was the start of eCommerce
The person's name was Richard Sears, who founded Sears, Roebuck and Co. in 1893.

eCommerce is growing 23% year over year. Globally eCommerce is projected to top 27 trillion by 2020. These statistics are for the retail sector only.

They don’t create the product or maintain an inventory of the product. Source other people's products or services and earn commission when the product is sold, it's that simple.

Did you know that 50% of the products sold on Amazon are products that Amazon has sourced through affiliate marketers? Amazon leverages good ideas from people like all of us. Products are sold on Amazon's massive platform. People earn commission by selling their products through Amazon. It's win/win!
