Understanding the Process of Change
Change is a process that happens over time ...
Below are five steps to necessary to start and keep the process of change going.
Where Are You Today?
1) Get real with yourself
Ask yourself….Do I really want to change?
Am I willing to do what it takes to change?
What does "here" look like?
Evaluate the Direction of Your Life
2) What things need to change? - What things need to stay the same?
Be honest with yourself. If you don’t feel you have what it takes to change right now, wait until you do. Many things need to be in place to start the process of change and many things need to be in place to maintain it.
Figure out if change is possible
Once you’ve decided you would like to change ….. Ask yourself if change is possible?
Do you have the right mindset? Is the time right for change? Are you willing to make the time and the commitment to make change happen? Do you have the right tools and support to change?
Write Down Your Goals
3) Make Sure Your Goals are Measurable
Put that goal in a place where you can see it every day. A picture works well too. This keeps your goal at the front of your mind. Your subconscious mind will help to move you towards your goal even when you’re not aware.
Find a Mentor
4) Find Someone Who Has Already Achieved What You're Striving For
Ask this person what they did every day to achieve their goal. Learn from their experiences and integrate these experiences into your life. Avoid the naysayers who would rather have you stay the same than change.
Hold One Another Accountable
5) Change Can Be Lonely - Find an Accountability Buddy
It’s easier to stay on track when you don’t feel you’re alone on the journey. Find someone who is like minded, has the same values and the same ambition and hold one another accountable for moving forward. This is a very effective way to stay on track, even when the learning curve is steep. Set up regular meetings to ensure you’re on track.
