What Does It Take to Reach Our Full Potential

How Can Two People Lead Such Different Lives?

Think of two people you know who grew up in the same circumstances, was given the same opportunities.  Why does one person live up to their full potential, is fulfilled and happy, while the other person is unhappy and living a life of quiet desperation?

1) The first answer is courage.

The person who is living up to his/her potential had the courage to venture into the unknown and face their fear. In a lot of ways, it’s about trust.  Trusting in yourself, your abilities and that everything will turn out for the best, even though you don’t know what that looks like when you start.

"Dream as if you’ll live forever.  Live as if you’ll die today.” ~James Dean

The Journey is the Destination

We all find ourselves at forks in the road at different times in our lives. It's about having courage to take the unknown path.  At first choosing the safe path, same old -same old may seem like the right way to go, after all it’s what you know and seems easier in the short-term.  In the long-run though always choosing the safe path can lead to a life of regret and unrealized dreams.

“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” ~ Steve Jobs

2) Follow Your Heart and Your Intuition

Our intuition guides us in powerful ways.  Opportunities are all around us.  It’s up to us to seize them when they present themselves. Some opportunities are doors that lead to many more places.  Muster the courage to walk through the door, even when you don’t know what lies on the other side.  Some doors don’t stay open for long and don't present themselves again.

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.”

Henry David Thoreau

Always choose fear over regret.

Will you regret not going on an exciting adventure? Yes? Will you regret not speaking at your best friends birthday party? Yes? Will you regret telling someone you love them? Yes? Then it’s time to face your fear and do it anyway.   Fear is fleeting, regret can last a lifetime.

Where Will You Go?

One of our favourite story books we read to our grandchildren by Dr Seuss - Oh! The Places You’ll Go!  It holds lessons for all of us. "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.  You can steer yourself any direction you choose.  You’re on your own.  And you know what you know.  And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go!  And will you succeed?  Yes!  You will indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed!)"

3) Find the Good in Everything

Even in the darkest of hours there is a flicker of light that reveals the silver lining.  According to the law of attraction, if you focus on the negative, more negativity will come your way.  When you focus on the positive, you will attract more positive things in your life. Problems will always occur in our lives, it’s not easy being human.

When we choose to move through our problems instead of getting stuck in them, we can grow and learn.  It’s all part of the process of reaching our true potential.

“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” ~ E.E. Cummings

Are you moving closer to living your dreams?  If yes, great keep going.

As Dr. Seuss says ~ Today is your day.  You’re off to great places! You’re off and away!
